The all-new 2013 Honda Accord went into production this
week, marking the 30th year of manufacturing in the U.S. In the past three
decades, the Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio has produced 9 million
Accords, since starting Nov. 1, 1982. The newest generation Accord has been
redesigned and engineered with the latest safety features, worthy of being the
staple sedan from Honda.
"This new Accord excels in all areas, and it's being
built in a plant that excels in all areas as well – including flexibility,
efficiency and quality for the customer," said Hide Iwata, president and
CEO of Honda of America Mfg, in a released statement. "For 30 years, the
Accord has been the signature vehicle from Honda, and it remains the industry
benchmark in a very competitive segment."
For this model year, the new Accord has been totally
redesigned with a sculpted exterior design, new engines and transmission and
new technological features.
Standard features on the 2013 Accord include rearview camera
and Expanded View Driver's Mirror, as well as Bluetooth, Multi-Information
Display, SMS text messaging function and Pandora internet radio interface,
according to Honda. Other options are the LaneWatch blind-spot display, Lane
Departure Warning and Forward Collision warning.
"Together, we worked hand-in-hand to ensure that every
detail of this vehicle could be manufactured with the highest levels of
quality," said Mike Fischer, manufacturing new-model leader for the Accord,
in the statement. "We have been very successful at taking an exciting
design concept for the 2013 Accord and turning it into a segment-leading
product for our customers."
Inside, the new Accord will have a one-piece instrument
panel offering a quieter ride by reducing road noise and a seamless, luxurious
appearance.
"This new Accord will be very fun to drive, will offer
great fuel economy, and will feature a comfortable cabin with a very quiet
ride," said Tomko.
Among the new design is Honda's new "Earth Dreams"
powertrain series, a new generation of engines and transmissions that will
debut in the U.S. in the all-new Accord, Honda says. A new four-cylinder direct
injection engine will be paired with Continuously Variable Transmission and a
new V6 engine with 6-speed automatic transmission is in the works.
The new Accord will be arriving at dealerships soon and you
