Next-gen electric sports car to be displayed

At the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of this week, Honda will introduce the EV-STER, a next-generation electric small sports concept model.



From Honda:

Featuring a dynamic and innovative styling design and excellent environmental performance, the EV-STER, an electric rear-wheel-drive two-seater convertible sports car, will propose a new way to enjoy a sports type model which is unique to the electromotive mobility. The adoption of carbon materials made it possible to reduce the vehicle weight contributing to the vehicle's high driving performance and range of approximately 160km. The easy-to-operate twin-lever steering was adopted for the thorough pursuit of the joy of driving. Moreover, the new concept model enables the driver to make his/her own adjustments to some vehicle characteristics such as motor output and suspension settings, to embody the joy of maneuvering to the fullest extent.

Furthermore, the instrument panel features not only meters, but also the vehicle information display which enables the driver to enjoy driving as well as the network display used for the audio and navigation systems and also for the internet access. The well-designed layout of the meters and displays enables the driver to concentrate on driving and enjoy the comfortable space.




With another update on the parts supply from Thailand, Honda has announced all North American plants will resume full normal production by Dec. 1.

While the severe flooding in Thailand continues to have some impact to our parts supply, Honda is working closely with its suppliers to fully reestablish the flow of parts for the products made in North America. Honda will update this information in the event changes are required.

In 2010, 87 percent of the Honda and Acura automobiles sold in the U.S. were produced in North America. While most of the parts and materials used to produce these products are purchased from North American suppliers, a few critical electronic parts are sourced from Thailand and other regions of the world.

Natural Gas Civic named 2012 Green Car of the Year

The all-new 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas, the only factory-built CNG-powered car produced in America, was awarded the 2012 Green Car of the Year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda announced.

"The Civic Natural Gas is not only a great vehicle, it also demonstrates Honda's commitment to provide a variety of alternatives to gasoline," said Michael Accavitti, vice president of marketing at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. in a released statement. "The Civic Natural Gas and the all-new Fit EV that we introduced yesterday at the Los Angeles Auto Show are the latest additions to a rapidly expanding family of alternative energy Honda vehicles aimed at cutting petroleum use and reducing our carbon footprint."

To support growing consumer interest in alternative-fuel vehicles, Honda is expanding its retail network of Civic Natural Gas retail outlets to 200 dealers in 36 states. Previously, retail sales of the natural gas-powered Civic had been limited to four states – California, New York, Utah and Oklahoma.

With multiple benefits including lower fuel costs and extremely low smog-forming emissions, the 2012 Civic Natural Gas currently qualifies for a state-issued decal allowing single-occupant access to High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) "carpool" lanes in California and several other states.

Featuring new styling, enhanced feature content and increased fuel economy, the redesigned 2012 Civic Natural Gas can now be equipped with the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System featuring an exclusive database of publicly accessible Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refueling stations across the United States.

Two Honda models receive Top Value Ratings

American Honda Motor Inc., announced it received two awards for Top Residual Value from ALG for the 2012 Odyssey and 2012 Fit. The annual residual awards recognize vehicles in each industry segment that ALG predicts will retain the highest percentage of retail value over a three-year period.

"We are delighted to receive two Residual Value Awards from ALG for the Fit and the Odyssey," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda in a released statement. "From the smallest to the largest, Honda vehicles are designed to provide class-leading quality, feature content and value to our customers."

The Odyssey claimed the Best Minivan category, defending its top spot from the year before. For the fourth straight year, the Fit won the Sub-Compact category. Honda has been earned 24 model awards and six overall brand awards from ALG in the last decade.
