Last-Minute Holiday Shopping Tips

Okay, so what is still on your list? Or have you not even started yet? Christmas is 3 days away, so you deadline-pushers (that would include me), stop despairing. These quick tips can help you survive another holiday season and elate your friends and family as well.

1. Do your online shopping TODAY. If it’s important to you that people on your gift list have actual items in their hands by Dec. 25, then today’s the day to start clicking for two-day shipping, if available. Many online retailers promise to deliver presents by Christmas Day if you place your order by Dec. 21-22 using two-day shipping, there are still some lenient retailers will continue to guarantee on-time delivery if you use overnight shipping by noon Pacific time on Dec. 22. You can quickly check the shipping sections of stores’ Web sites to find out which deadlines you’ll have to hit.

2. Buy tangible, plastic gift cards. Stop by Honda Mall of Georgia and pick up a gift certificate for a nice accessory, oil change, tire rotation, car detail, etc. Most local businesses offer them, so you have plenty of opportunities to look thoughtful by tailoring your gift-card purchases to certain individuals. Just be sure to read the fine print before you buy. Some cards might have expiration dates and fees, particularly those bearing the logos of major credit card companies. Our gift cards do not have any hidden fees. If you’re not comfortable just handing over a card, wrap it inside a mug or put it in the arms of a small stuffed animal.

3. Send electronic gift certificates or gift cards. Another option is an online gift certificate that gets sent out via e-mail. Many retailers offer them, and their convenience to you is unparalleled – so long as you feel reasonably comfortable that your recipient won’t mistake your electronic gift for spam. Some retailers allow the certificates to be used only on their Web sites, not in their stores, so make sure the person on the receiving end is comfortable shopping online. You’ll often have until around noon on Dec. 24 to order the e-gift cards and guarantee their timely arrival.

4. Shop on Dec. 24. Most non-procrastinating types relax on Christmas Eve day – meaning traffic at the malls should be thinner then. Of course, this approach only will work for presents you can give in person locally, not for gifts that need to be mailed.

5. Think food and drinks. Consider “splurges” that your loved ones might not get for themselves – and that also won’t require you to step foot into a crowded mall. Some ideas: nice bottles of booze and liqueur; a case of wine; caviar; prosciutto; gourmet cheeses; fine chocolate; premium olive oils; hard-to-find hot sauces.

6. Give the gift of yourself. For a gift that’s both personal and easy to execute on a deadline, create “coupons” for services you can provide in the weeks to come. You can give coupons for an amazing multi-course meal, babysitting services, pet-care services, massages, Web site building, car repairs, painting and other handyman services around the home. Just be careful not to over-promise; you’re sure to be remembered for giving a “gift” and failing to deliver on it. Or maybe a coupon for someone to go pick out their very own Honda (You know Happy Honda Days is going on?!)

7. Opt for practical ideas. You can get large quantities of items your recipients are sure to use, such as art supplies for art lovers, prepaid calling cards for friends who travel a lot, or specialized emergency kits. For someone with chronic car problems, give them a gift certificate for a Honda emergency kit, a flashlight, gas can, jumper cables, flares and a membership to AAA.

8. Donate to charity in someone else’s name. Through the nonprofit Charity Checks, you can order a check in any dollar amount, then let your recipient select a charity from among 800,000 in the United States. Go to http://www.charitychecks.us/ or call toll-free 1-800-854-5601. (Once again, if you want your gift to show up by Christmas Day, it’s best to place your order by Dec. 21. You might be able to get away with waiting until Dec. 22 to order, so long as you’re willing to pony up for overnight delivery.)

Don’t despair, just get creative and there are lots of ways to bring holiday cheer! Honda Mall of Georgia is here to help! Stop by and we can help you put together a gift that will knock your Honda fan’s sock off!

Safety on the Long Road - Holiday Driving

AAA reports an estimated 33.8 million people travel during the last two weeks of December with more than 75 percent of those people driving. Estimates project an even higher number of travelers this year, causing our nation's highways to be more congested than ever, in potentially bad weather. Follow these tips, get prepared, and stay safe during those long hours behind the wheel this holiday season.

winter-driving1

Prepare your vehicle. Make sure it is maintained and in good shape. Check your tire pressure, oil, and coolant. Honda Mall of Georgia is here to get your Honda humming for the long haul and often brutal winter haul. Call us and set up an appointment. We’ll be happy to get you rolling.

Be prepared for winter driving. In some areas of the country, you are dealing with snow, ice and unplanned conditions that you might experience at home. Carry a snow scraper and brush, a flashlight, blankets, booster cables, and a shovel, and make sure you have flares or emergency triangles.

Check on road conditions and weather in advance. First check TCC for our own real-time traffic reports. You may also want to try the Federal Highway Administration's site for traffic information and links to other traffic sites. Check the weather forecast before you go for the weather along major interstate highways.

Bring a cell phone(s) for emergencies, but don't ever use hand-held cell phones while driving, and even if you have a hands-free cell phone, use it only when absolutely necessary. Leave the calling to passengers, or better yet, when you've pulled over somewhere off the highway. And make sure you have a phone charger to keep your phone ready.

Wear a seatbelt. Make sure that every occupant of your vehicle is properly wearing seatbelts, even if you are in a van or RV.

Take regular breaks. Stop at least once every two hours-more frequently if it's snowing, as falling snow can have a hypnotic effect.

Don't speed. Speeding to try to cut trip time is especially risky when highways are packed with holiday traffic. Police will be out in full force to enforce posted limits.

Don't drink and drive! Watch out for other drunks on the road, and report any suspects to the police before they cause an accident. According to NHTSA data, more people are killed in accidents on holidays than any other time, and nearly half of the accidents involve drunk drivers.

Don't binge. Drinking or eating too much over the weekend will leave you tired for the drive back. Safely stow food in the trunk, rather than in the car where it's a distraction. Keep in mind that turkey contains a natural sedative, called L-tryptophan.

Cut distractions. Supply the kids with distractions so they don't distract you. Traditional games like travel bingo tend to be a lot less annoying on a long trip than the sounds of a Buzz Lightyear doll and a Game Boy.

Finally, read TCC's tips on Night Driving for more information. And get a sense of humor-if you're driving more than six hours, you're going to need it!

Happy holiday traveling!

Read What Our Customers Had to Say…

At Honda Mall of Georgia, we believe the customer is #1. Here’s what one of our customers had to say about their experience with us.

While I realize that you probably send one to all new car purchasers, this is my third car to purchase from this dealership. The 2001 and 2004 Honda CRV's were purchased from Lanier Honda and have received all of their "checkups" and service at your dealership. I have been very pleased with the service I have received (although $3,000 for a new air conditioner for the 2001--ouch) and was happy to successfully negotiate the purchase of the Odyssey. I LOVE it and plan to drive it for many years to come and enjoy every mile!

I wanted to let you know how much I was impressed with the salesman, sales manager and finance manager who did the final paperwork. They were all very personable and professional. While they wanted to sell me a car I did not feel pressured or made to feel like I needed to take my brother with me to make sure I wasn't talked down to as I was at another car dealership when trying to buy one car. Needless to say I didn't purchase a car there!

I will not hesitate to recommend both Jim as the salesperson and Honda Mall of Georgia as the dealership to anyone I know who is looking for a new Honda. And, believe me, I don't make recommendations lightly or give praise where it isn't due.

Thanks again and please convey my thanks to your staff for their help in purchasing my new Odyssey.

Come by and see us. We can help you make a qualified decision on your next new Honda. We want to help!

How to Keep Holiday Memories Fun – Focus on Safety

As we all go through the hustle and bustle of holiday planning, we often lose site of the lack of security and dangers around us. We all are out there shopping and spending and so are the opportunists to take advantage. It’s the most dangerous time and when we put our guard down the most.

So before you head out to the malls and shops for marathon days of shopping for your family and friends, heed this advice before heading out. Taking a few prevention measures can help keep your holiday memories fun and memorable.

The following tips can help you be more careful, prepared and aware during the holiday season.

ATM Safety - Be extremely careful using ATM machines
• Use them in populated places and be constantly paying attention to what’s going on around you.
• Try to go during the daylight hours.
• If you must go at night, pick a machine that is well lit and visible to passing traffic.
• If anyone is lurking near the machine, pass it up and find another.

At the Mall – Lots of distractions
• Try to shop when the mall is less crowded -- during the weekday, or at night when malls stay open late for holiday shoppers. Avoid the weekend rush, when it's easy to lose children among crowds.
• Don't dangle your handbag from your shoulder. You are creating a perfect setup for a purse-snatcher. Instead, keep your purse tucked tightly under your arm, or better yet, don't even carry a purse. Wear a fanny pack facing the front instead. Besides allowing your hands to be free to hold onto or carry your child, you’ll eliminate the possibility of leaving your purse behind or having it stolen.
• If you use pockets, place your checkbook, cash, or credit cards in your front pockets. Only bring one or two credit cards and a limited amount of cash with you.
• Spread your money around in different pockets. That way a pickpocket can't clean you out in one fell swoop.
• Avoid carrying your checkbook, cash, and credit cards all together in one wallet, because a thief who gets the whole package together can cash checks with your identification and run up a large credit card bill in a short amount of time. Keep your keys separate, too.
• Don't "flash" large rolls of money in public. You never know who's watching!
• Check to see you’ve been given back your card once you’ve paid for what you bought.
• Watch your credit card slip being filled out - and make sure it's not passed through the machine more than once. Ask for your carbons.
• Keep your credit card receipts in safe place when you get home and check them against monthly bills.
• Make a list of your major credit cards, their account numbers and the phone numbers to call if cards are lost. Keep this list at home.
• If you’re not sure a shopping bag will be available, take one of your own to the mall.
• Consolidate as many packages as possible, or make several trips to your car to deposit packages in the trunk. Don't allow yourself to become so burdened down with packages that you become a tempting target.
• Avoid carrying large, heavy packages that block your vision and make you a target for purse-snatchers.
• Keep an eye on your child. It's okay to let children look around and have fun while they shop, but they also need to understand that it's important to stay near their parents.
• Bring a babysitter, friend or older child to help watch your youngest, especially when waiting in long lines.
• Teach your son or daughter what to do in the event you get separated. The best option is to instruct your child to look for a security guard or police officer, or go to the customer service desk where people are trained to help.

In the Parking Lot – A prime area for targeting, don’t go alone.
• Always park where there is plenty of light, not only around your car, but also from your car to the mall or store entrance.
• Once your car is parked, familiarize yourself with its location so you can find it without delay.
• Don't hesitate to ask for a security escort if you feel unsafe.
• Use the trunk of your car to keep your packages out of sight.
• Keep your car locked at all times.
• When walking through parking lots, be sure that you are aware of your surroundings. Walk with authority. Don't look like a victim!
• Have your keys in your hand before you go to your car.

Honda Mall of Georgia wishes you and your family the best during this holiday season. Safety is a critical part to your family joy and fun. We are here to answer any questions you might have about the security options with your Honda. Give us a call at anytime and we’d be happy to walk you through the features and options.

Happy Safe Holidays!

Affordability: Honda Insight's edge in 4-door hybrid market

Honda's new-for-2010 Insight hybrid is more than just a next step from the company's original gas-electric car - it's an enormous evolutionary leap.

The original Insight was a two-seat, two-door hatchback, and the new car sharing its name is a larger four-door hatchback, measuring 17.2 inches longer and weighing 876 pounds more. Honda's new Insight is shorter on fuel economy, though, with an estimated city/highway miles per gallon of 40/43 vs. the lightweight oldie's 48/53.

Importantly, the new Insight gives Honda a weapon to battle in a growing market of compact and midsize four-door hybrids such as Toyota's Prius and Camry Hybrid, and Nissan's Altima Hybrid.

The Insight's estimated combined city/highway fuel economy of 41 mpg compares to competitors as follows: Prius, 50 mpg; Camry Hybrid, 33 mpg; Fusion Hybrid, 39 mpg; and Altima Hybrid, 33 mpg.

The Insight's key edge is its price - the only hybrid in its class with an under-$20,000 starting price. It's available in three models: LX, $19,800; EX, $21,300; and EX with Navigation, $23,100. A destination charge of $750 is added to each model.

The test vehicle is the top-line EX with Navigation. Cloaked in Tango Red Pearl paint, the sleek body is eye-catching, but not in the “What-the-heck-is-that?” way as the first Insight. After seeing the Prius' familiar form (which the new Insight's shape somewhat favors) on the road for about a decade, there's nothing shocking about the Insight's shape.

Its large windshield makes a sharp incline and, nearly at the point where the roof and windshield meet, the roof takes a dramatic slope - blending with a huge expanse of hatchback glass.

The glass follows the roof's slant to meet an LED brake-light dividing bar, and then the glass drops to a narrow panel that traverses the rear. This panel is flanked by huge wedge-shaped tail-lamps. The view through the Insight's steep rear glass is satisfactory, but cargo can easily block it - so the height of items toted is limited.

Up front, the Insight's hood slopes into a futuristic-looking snout. A sleek chrome three-bar grille is cradled in a silver-colored yoke, separating it from the blacked-out air dam below. Blending with the yoke and grille, the narrow headlamps wrap to create a winged effect.

Within Insight's creatively sculpted shell is the latest version of Honda's Integrated Motor Assist system. Powering the hybrid is a 1.3-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder gas engine, DC-brushless electric motor/generator and continuously variable transmission. The engine delivers 98 horsepower and 123 pound-feet, and the electric motor's output is 13 horses and 58 pound-feet of torque.

The electric motor teams with the gas engine, assisting it to provide extra muscle as needed. While electric power can drive the Insight up to 30 mph, the IMA system does this with the electric motor connected to the shut-off engine's spinning crankshaft. The electric motor also works as a generator during deceleration and as a starter that spins the engine up to idle speed.

Auto Idle Stop is another key part of the IMA system's fuel-saving engineering. It allows the engine to automatically shut down, depending on environmental conditions and vehicle operation, when the vehicle comes to a stop with brakes applied. The engine also may stop during braking when speed drops below 7 mph.

The system includes a nickel-metal hydride battery pack, which Honda reports is much improved when compared the its Civic sibling's battery. Its advantages are lower cost, reduced weight and a positioning allowing for increased cabin space.

EX models are fitted with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The Insight is adequately quick for city and highway driving, accelerating from 0-60 mph in about 10.9 seconds. Powertrain noise can be heard during hard acceleration, but it's minimal. When stopped on a steep grade there is some roll-back when the brake is released.

Honda gives the driver some control over the IMA system's efficiency via Eco Assist and ECON features. A press on a green dash-mounted ECON button provides a fuel-economy boost by altering vehicle functions - modifying engine performance, increasing regenerative braking (harnesses more battery-charging energy) and creating more temperature fluctuation in the automatic climate control system.

Expanded conditions of idle-stop operation (to reduce fuel use), slower throttle response (except on full throttle) and shorter coasting distances caused by increased regenerative braking are the most obvious performance changes.

The Eco Assist system provides feedback on driving efficiency via a colorful, intense-looking gauge cluster. It trains the driver to operate the vehicle in an eco-efficient manner by three different forms of feedback: real-time driving indicator with an Eco Drive Bar, which indicates if vehicle operation is in efficient braking and driving zones; an appraisal of each trip driven; and a long-term score in which the driver accumulates points and is given increasing steps of recognition.

An IMA Charge/Assist Gauge allows the driver to keep tabs on whether the IMA is assisting the engine or if the battery is being charged.

The Insight's most-used gauge is the Ambient Meter, mounted high, above the main cluster. It provides a clear digital speedometer reading and the background changes color with the efficiency of the driver's style - green for the highest level, blue-green for the mid-level and blue for the least-efficient level.

Aside from this sprinkling of eco gauges, the Insight's cabin layout is simple, with a clean, airy look. The front buckets are firm and have supportive side bolstering. A seat-height adjustment assists in getting the driver seat at an optimal height.

The rear seat is a 60/40-split configuration with scooped-out outboard cushions and an elevated center section. Seatbacks fold to accommodate longer cargo, and loading items is made easy with the large hatchback opening.

Headroom and legroom are generous in the front, but room for passengers in the rear is somewhat tight. Tall adults will find headroom cramped.

Passengers experience ride quality that's on the firm side. Steering responsiveness is relatively quick, and standard Vehicle Stability Assist contributes to driver confidence.

The test vehicle comes standard with an impressive bundle of electronics: Honda Navigation System with voice recognition; Bluetooth hands-free link; digital audio card reader; 160-watt, six-speaker AM/FM/CD with MP3/WMA playback; steering wheel audio controls; USB audio interface; and MP3/auxiliary input jack.

Honda's Insight is a vehicle that's easy to live with. Driver comfort level is high, the navigation system adds convenience and, importantly, fuel stops are far apart.

For the consumer shopping for a hybrid, the Insight's efficient IMA system and lower-than-average price tag makes it a must for a test drive. Come on by and experience it yourself at Honda Mall of Georgia.

Highest Rating in Revised U.S. Crash Tests - The Accord

Honda Accord received the best possible safety rating among 2011 model-year passenger cars tested for crashes under new U.S. evaluation standards, edging ahead of Toyota Motor Corp. and Hyundai Motor Co. sedans.

The mid-size Accord, Honda’s top-selling U.S. model, got an overall five-star rating, according to results posted on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.

Of 40 models tested so far, six rated five stars overall. Accord is the first to get five stars in each of three crash categories tested by NHTSA.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said last month that the ratings are aimed at boosting overall safety and ensuring the results more accurately reflect the crashworthiness of new cars and light trucks. Changes include the use of female crash- test dummies for the first time, along with male versions, to collect data about injuries to the chest, head, neck and legs.

The 2011 Accord sedan received five stars on side and frontal crashes and rollovers, according to NHTSA.

Come in for a test drive and experience the Accord for yourself at Honda Mall of Georgia. We have great special offers online:

2011 Honda CR-V Serves Up SUV Versatility with Style and Refinement

Honda officially unveiled the CR-V in October. The 2011 Honda CR-V provides a versatile and accommodating crossover SUV package with space for up to five passengers and a versatile cargo area for utility. The CR-V also provides fuel economy and refined, comfortable handling similar to a mid-size sedan.

A new model for 2011, the CR-V SE (Special Edition), adds to the standard features of the CR-V LX with alloy wheels (replaces styled-steel wheels), a 160-watt AM/FM/6-disc changer with six speakers (up from a single-disc CD and four speakers), steering wheel-mounted audio controls and rear privacy glass. The previous, 2010 model-year CR-V received a wide range of enhancements including sharpened styling, additional features on certain trim levels, higher fuel economy ratings, and increased power.

A dynamic forward cabin, a two-tiered grille and a distinctive side profile express the CR-V's emphasis on upscale style and design. Compact on the outside yet large on the inside, the interior provides a maximum passenger volume of 103.8 cu-ft. (CR-V LX), plus an accommodating cargo volume of 35.7 cu-ft. behind the rear seats. The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine generates 180 horsepower (hp) and 161 lb-ft of torque. City/highway/combined EPA-estimated fuel-economy ratings1 are 21/28/24 miles per gallon (mpg) on 2WD models and 21/27/23 mpg on models equipped with Real Time™ 4WD.
The CR-V's interior emphasizes functionality and style. The front row storage areas are designed to accommodate items such as a handbag between the seats. For comfort, there are driver's and front passenger's center-folding armrests. A center console replaces the retractable center tray table on the CR-V EX-L with navigation.

Standard safety equipment includes: the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) and a pedestrian injury mitigation design in the front of the vehicle. Additional standard equipment includes side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor; front side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); active front seat head restraints; an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist; and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The suspension is comprised of a front MacPherson strut layout and a rear multi-link suspension. The high-rigidity body and independent suspension offer a comfortable and engaging driving experience for a crossover SUV. State-of-the art noise absorption materials help to reduce engine and road noise for a quieter cabin.

Last but not the least is the super CR-V EX-L, marching a step ahead of the CR-V EX trim with leather-trimmed seats and armrests, body colored side mirrors and door handles, heated front seats, an USB Audio Interface , XM Radio, and autoon/off headlights.

Also offered are a number of color options styling the various models. To name a few are Opal Sage Metallic, Royal Blue Pearl, Taffeta White, Glacier Blue Metallic, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Tango Red Pearl and so on. The owners may also match the interiors with the body color from three options available as Ivory, Black or Gray.

Halloween Safety – The 411

With Halloween weekend upon us, thousands of children dressed like little goblins, creepy creatures, and superheroes will be on the streets for treats and candy. It is when the children will be at increased risk of being hit by a car. The risk will in fact be higher than any other time of the year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), reports Halloween is consistently one of the top three days for pedestrian injuries and fatalities.
In addition, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), estimates that children are four times more likely to be hit by a motor vehicle on Halloween than any other day of the year.

It is advised not to go out in the car, unless very necessary. But in case one wants to go, it is very important to be cautious about the dangers and be alert.
Maintain a low speed limit, and do not accelerate more than 25 mph, in those areas where trick-or-treaters are present.

Always take care of children on the Halloween night when they walk on the streets between parked cars along the side of highway.

Avoid using mobile phone, navigation system, sound system, or other disturbing devices in those residential areas where the pedestrians might be present. It is also safe to take the children to an organized party.

Both adults and children should be safety conscious when celebrating Halloween this season. Prepare ahead with these useful Halloween Safety Tips:

MOTORISTS
• Watch for children darting out from between parked cars.
• Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs.
• Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully.
• At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing.

PARENTS
• Make sure that an adult or an older responsible youth will be supervising the outing for children under age 12.
• Plan and discuss the route trick-or-treaters intend to follow. Know the names of older children’s companions.
• Instruct your children to travel only in familiar areas and along an established route.
• Teach your children to stop only at houses or apartment buildings that are well-lit and never to enter a stranger’s home.
• Establish a return time.
• Tell your youngsters not to eat any treat until they return home.
• Review all appropriate trick-or-treat safety precautions, including pedestrian/traffic safety rules.
• Pin a slip of paper with the child’s name, address and phone number inside a pocket in case the youngster gets separated from the group.

COSTUME DESIGN
• Costumes should be loose so warm clothes can be worn underneath.
• Costumes should not be so long that they are a tripping hazard. (Falls are the leading cause of unintentional injuries on Halloween.)
• If children are allowed out after dark, outfits should be made with light colored materials. Strips of retro-reflective tape should be used to make children visible.

FACE DESIGN
• Masks can obstruct a child’s vision. Use facial make-up instead.
• When buying special Halloween makeup, check for packages containing ingredients that are labeled “Made with U.S. Approved Color Additives,” “Laboratory Tested,” Meets Federal Standards for Cosmetics,” or “Non-Toxic.” Follow manufacturer’s instruction for application.
• If masks are worn, they should have nose and mouth openings and large eye holes.

ACCESSORIES
• Knives, swords and other accessories should be made from cardboard or flexible materials. Do not allow children to carry sharp objects.
• Bags or sacks carried by youngsters should be light-colored or trimmed with retro-reflective tape if children are allowed out after dark.
• Carrying flashlights will help children see better and be seen more clearly.

TREATS
• Give children an early meal before going out.
• Insist that treats be brought home for inspection before anything is eaten.
• Wash fruit and slice into small pieces to have children snack along the way if they get hungry.
• When in doubt, throw it out.

Test your car safety IQ and see where you measure up. We were surprised what we didn’t know either.

From your friends at Honda Mall of Georgia, have a safe and happy Halloween weekend! We want it to be filled with happy and fun lifelong memories!

2011 Honda Civic Delivers Value, Efficiency and Luxury

The 2011 Honda Civic lineup is the coolest so far and spans a wide range with technologically advanced Civic Sedan and Coupe models, a Civic Hybrid, a high-performance Civic Si and a Civic GX model that runs exclusively on natural gas.

A sweeping roofline and a sleek windshield angle convey an advanced, one-motion profile with a low and wide stance. The interior focuses on sophisticated styling with a two-tier instrument panel, comfortable seating and accommodating storage areas with room for mobile phones, MP3 players and more. Built on a high-rigidity unit-body platform, the Civic is designed to deliver precise, sharp and fun-to-drive handling performance with its fully independent suspension.
Four engine and four transmission choices range from a 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic DX, DX-VP, LX, EX and EX-L), with either a 5-speed manual or an available 5-speed automatic transmission, to a 197-horsepower, 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic Si) with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Civic Hybrid is powered by a 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) gasoline-electric hybrid technology to enhance both fuel economy and performance, and is equipped with a continuously variable transmission.

The entire line-up maintains a standard array of safety technologies including Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure; side curtain airbags; driver's and front passenger's side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); and dual-stage, multiple-threshold driver's and front passenger's airbags (SRS). Active front seat head restraints are designed to help reduce the likelihood of neck injury in the event of a rear collision. Standard active safety features include an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution, front seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system, and a pedestrian injury mitigation design incorporated into the front exterior of the vehicle. Driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders and daytime running lights are also standard equipment. The Civic EX-L, Civic Si and Civic Hybrid include Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), commonly referred to as electronic stability control, as standard safety content.

The Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System1, available on Civic EX, EX-L, Si and Hybrid models, has a 6.5-inch motorized display that opens and closes for access to the internal single-disc CD player. The navigation system features more than 7 million points of interest and the voice activation can control the navigation menus and the audio system, along with entering city and street names. The system includes Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®, a wireless telephone interface that works with compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile telephones for hands-free operation via steering wheel-mounted controls.

Auxiliary audio input jacks are standard equipment on Civic DX-VP and above trim levels, allowing for portable music device playback through the audio system. The Civic LX Coupe has a six-speaker 160-watt audio system with a CD player (four speakers for the DX-VP and LX sedan). All audio systems are capable of playing MP3- and WMA-formatted CDs. A USB Audio Interface is standard on the Civic EX, EX-L, Hybrid and Si models, providing integration for a compatible MP3 player or a USB flash drive loaded with compatible music files.
Speed-sensitive Volume Control (SVC) automatically adjusts the volume based on vehicle speed. The audio display provides CD/MP3 text readout, and all coupes (except for the DX) plus the Civic Si Sedan provide a customizable welcome screen (exclusively on models without the available navigation system).

Honda Remains Top of Green

Honda has won its fifth consecutive “greenest automaker” award from the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Honda won by a single point over Toyota and Hyundai, which tied for second in the Union’s ranking of the eight largest automakers. In ranking the “greenness” of the companies — which account for 92 percent of cars sold in the United States — the Union examined the average per-mile smog pollution and greenhouse gas emissions of each automaker’s entire fleet.

“It was a photo finish, but Honda is still the champ,” Jim Kliesch, a senior engineer in the Union’s clean vehicles program, said. “Toyota was poised to take the lead but stalled in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s fleet saw dramatic efficiency improvements, pushing the company into a title contender spot.”

As usual, American automakers brought up the rear. This is the fifth time since 1998 that the Union has ranked the biggest automakers. In compiling the “Automaker Rankings 2010,” the number crunchers at the Union examined the per-mile smog and greenhouse gas emissions of each companies’ 2008 lineup, the latest year for which full data were available.

Each company is ranked against the industry average of all eight companies combined. The average CO2 emissions of the eight automakers was 429 grams per mile. The average emissions of nitrogen oxides and non-methane organic gases — two major smog-forming emissions — was 0.147 grams per mile. The industry average was assigned a score of 100, and each automaker was ranked against that.

Honda finished with an overall score of 86, meaning its fleet is 14 percent less polluting than the industry average. Toyota and Hyundai followed with 87 points. Volkswagen was fourth with 90, while Nissan came in at 93.

“As with the past four awards, we accept this fifth honor as both recognition of our success and a challenge for the future,” John Mendel, executive VP of American Honda Motor Co. said in a statement. “We continue to accelerate our efforts to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions that contribute to global climate change.”

One interesting point to emerge from the data is an automaker can offer a full line of vehicles — from compacts to SUVs, as Honda and Toyota do — and still offer an eco-friendlier lineup. That pretty much kills the argument that cranking out nothing but econoboxes is the only way to be “green.”

At Honda Mall of Georgia, we strive to deliver top customer service. It doesn't end when the sale is closed. We consider that just the beginning. You are part of the Honda Mall of Georgia family. We want to take care of you for a lifetime.

Mike Gill is a new customer and he was so obliged to share his experience. Mike, we appreciate it!

We are so proud of our team, especially Martha and Donna.

Dear Honda Mall of Georgia,
This is to bring a matter to your attention that I believe merits your time in reading it, and possibly bringing it to your employees attention if you are so inclined. I am about to take possession of a 2011 Ridgeline from Honda Mall of Georgia, and there are two specific individuals who have played a major role in bringing this about. Martha in Sales and Donna in your Service Department have both made a very positive impression on me, and I believe they have a direct impact on the success of your dealership.

To be perfectly honest, I had a lower priced package offered to me by one of your local competitors, but I feel totally comfortable in the purchase choice I have made. Employees such as Martha and Donna instill a firm belief that the Mall of Georgia Honda is the most reputable place to do business, and as a direct result your customers (such as myself) tell their friends and family to be sure to give you a fair shot concerning their next automobile purchase. I commend you for having employees such as these representing your dealership,

Thank you,

Mike Gill

The History of the Honda Engine and How Honda Continues to Revolutionize the Industry

Honda has a history of producing quality cars, motorcycles, scooters, trucks, robots, jets and jet engines, ATVs, water craft, and many other important technologies. Honda is the largest engine manufacturer in the world with more than 14 million internal combustion engines built each year. Do you know when and how the first Honda engine was built?

After World War II, Soichiro Honda formed the Honda Research Institute Company in Japan. In 1947, Honda built the A-type engine, a 1-horsepower 50cc two-stroke that fastened to bicycles. Honda staff called it the “chimney” because of its tall cylinder. In September 1948, the Honda Motor Co. was formally established.

The first production automobile from Honda was the T360 mini pick-up truck which was powered by a small 356 cc straight-4 gasoline engine. The first production car from Honda was the S500 sports car. In 1961, the bigger Volvo model engines called the 122-S series B-18 engine were built. In 1965, Honda built a race car equipped with a 12-cylinder engine.

In 1973, The Ford Motor Company formed an agreement with The Honda Motor Company to obtain technical data on a new engine that would decrease air pollution. They created the first engine to meet the guidelines of the 1970 US Clean Air Act.

In 1991, Honda reported selling 7000 CRX-HF cars where the Honda engine used computers and sensors to control valve action and the air-fuel. The purpose was to increase the amount of air in the mixture to 20 parts per 1 part gasoline.

In May 1999, Honda announced that it would supply its new Formula 1 engines to British American Racing. The most important highlight of the announcement was that Honda’s engine engineers had developed an oil trap that fitted into the engine. Also in 1999, Hybrid Electric Honda launched the first commercial hybrid electric car that was sold in the US as the Honda Insight. The first-generation Insight was produced from 2000 to 2006. This was the most fuel-efficient mass-produced car at the time. In 2000, Honda began mass producing clean high-performance engines.
The Honda Civic GX is the only natural gas vehicle (NGV) available in certain US locations. In 2001, the Civic GX was rated the cleanest-burning internal combustion engine in the world by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In late 2006, Honda’s Brazilian subsidiary launched flexible-fuel versions for the Honda Civic and Honda Fit. These models run on a mixture of hydrous ethanol (E100) and E20-E25 gasoline.

Honda introduced the second-generation Insight in Japan in February 2009. It will be the cheapest hybrid available in the US.

Since 2002, Honda has been selling the Honda Civic Hybrid (2003 model) in the US. It was followed by the Honda Accord Hybrid, which was offered in 2005 to 2007 models. Honda is also planning to introduce a hybrid version of its Honda Fit, as well as another unique small hybrid vehicle based on the CR-Z sports car that was introduced at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show.

Honda has a remarkable history of building solid engines. It will be interesting to see what the future of the Honda engine will bring.

Honda Mall of Georgia is so proud to represent a manufacturer who is always thinking ahead - customer, experience, environment and ingenuity. If you have not come by to test drive a hybrid, come by and get a taste of the latest passion.

All-New 2011 Odyssey Hits Our Lot on September 30th

This trend-setting minivan will be on the Honda Mall of Georgia lot end of this month. The 2011 Odyssey adds functionality, style and fuel economy.

The completely redesigned Odyssey improves for 2011 with greater interior functionality, a more distinctive style and higher fuel economy. Across all available models — the Odyssey LX, EX, EX-L, Touring and now, the new Touring Elite — more than 50 standard and available features have been added for 2011 to enhance comfort, convenience, efficiency and travel fun.

"The all-new Odyssey is set to once again redefine the minivan segment as the ultimate family vehicle," said Erik Berkman, vice president of Corporate Planning and Logistics for American Honda. "Never before has so much space, functionality and comfort been combined with this much style, technology and fuel economy."

The Odyssey Touring model rates a class-leading 28 mpg with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) ranging from $27,800 for the value-oriented Odyssey LX to $43,250 for the ultra-premium Odyssey Touring Elite.

Significant enhancements to the interior include a new "3-mode" second-row seat design that is more comfortable for center passengers (Odyssey EX and above). The 2011 Odyssey is equipped with a total of five LATCH attachment points (four in the Odyssey LX), the most of any vehicle currently available on the market as of 2011 (up from three in the previous model). The one-motion, 60/40 split 3rd-row Magic Seat®, one of the Odyssey's original concepts and most versatile features, is positioned for more legroom and is even easier to operate for 2011.

Dramatic new styling creates a more dynamic appearance unlike any other minivan with the introduction of a tapered cabin and a signature "lightning bolt" belt line. The lightning bolt belt line improves the outward view for third-row passengers. The body's enhanced aerodynamic shape along with engineering improvements throughout the vehicle contribute to a class-leading EPA highway fuel-economy rating of 28 milesper- gallon (mpg) on Odyssey Touring models, an improvement of 3 mpg compared to the 2010 Odyssey Touring model and the most for any eight-passenger minivan.

A more powerful and efficient 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine features Variable Cylinder Management (standard on all models for 2011) and produces 248 hp (+4 hp over 2010) while delivering an EPA-estimated city/highway/combined fuel economy of 19/28/22 mpg on Odyssey Touring models (18/27/21 mpg on Odyssey LX, EX and EX-L models). For enhanced driving refinement on Odyssey Touring models, a six-speed automatic transmission debuts as a standard feature. All other models receive the five-speed automatic transmission.

New technology available on certain models includes a rear entertainment system with a 16.2-inch ultrawide split-screen display and an auxiliary High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) video input, an "intelligent" Multi-Information Display (i-MID) with customizable wallpaper, integration of FM traffic data on navigation models and much more. Thoughtful features have been added throughout like the available cool box, front bag hook, available flip-up trash bag ring and more. Popular features like the available back-up camera and available conversation mirror continue to be offered.

An extensive list of safety equipment comes standard on every Odyssey. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure is a Honda-exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. Additional standard safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), commonly referred to as electronic stability control; anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist; three-row side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor; driver's and front passenger's side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; and active front seat head restraints.

With a wide range of new features adding value for economy, comfort and convenience, the increase in 2011 Odyssey pricing represents a 2.5-percent difference on a sales-weighted basis compared to the 2010 models being replaced (approximately $840 on average).

We'll see you on September 30th!

T-Minus 5 Days - New 2011 Honda CR-Z Hits Honda Mall of Georgia Lot

2011 CR-Z will be here on Tuesday. Make your plans and stop by for a test drive.

To get yourself geared up for this event, go to the Honda blog and download the hybrid ring tone.

The Open Road is Calling
Most hybrid vehicles make a particular sound, or, rather, lack there of. That’s not the case with the CR-Z. Despite the car’s hybrid chops it growls and revs more like a sports coupe than an “eco-mobile.” The CR-Z’s tuned exhaust note is something our engineers purposely developed and obsessively perfected. And we’re kind of proud of it. So we wanted to share it with you. While you can’t test drive the CR-Z and hear it purr from behind the wheel quite yet, you can have the throaty exhaust announce your next phone call, with the new CR-Z ring tone.

Tire Pressure Can Affect More Than You Think

How many times have you heard of a fatal car wreck that was a result of a blown tire? Now, let’s wonder how many these incidences could have been avoided if the tire pressure had been monitored properly? More than we want to know.

Simply put, failure to maintain right tire pressure on a consistent basis may result in faster tire wear, tire failures and loss of control, thus resulting in possible property damage, serious injuries and death.

There are namely, three different situations when it comes to your tire pressure: The correct pressure, the under inflation and the over inflation.

Some Useful Information Relating To Tire Pressures
• The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that underinflated tires resulted in 300,000 accidents per year in American alone.
• Surveys have found that many vehicles (about 4 out of 5 or 80%) routinely have at least one underinflated tire.
• It is estimated that, on average, Americans wasted two million gallons of gas each year because of underinflated tires (more energy required to move vehicles with underinflated tires).
• A survey has shown that a relatively high percentage (>50%) of people have mistakenly believed that the correct pressure is listed on the tire sidewall.

Over-inflating your tires will give you a bouncy ride and an ill-handling car, while under-inflated tires can develop premature wear from increased friction. Either way, not having your tires at their recommended pressure will negatively affect tire wear and vehicle performance.
How do I find the correct tire pressure for my car?

There’s a pressure rating on the tires themselves, but your Honda door has a different pressure number. Which one is correct? How many psi should I have in my tires?

Having the correct tire pressure is extremely important for getting good gas mileage and the most life out of your tires. Your Honda has a specific tire pressure that will give the best gas mileage, handling and tire life for that car, and it’s written right on the door of your Honda. That’s the one you should follow when filling up.

On newer Hondas, the recommended pressure is listed on a sticker inside the driver’s door. If there’s no sticker on the door, you can find the specs in your owner’s manual. Most passenger cars will recommend 32 to 35 psi in the tires when they’re cold. The reason you check them cold is that as tires roll along the road, friction between them and the road generates heat, increasing tire pressure. For the most consistent tire-pressure reading, make sure the car has been sitting overnight, or at least has been parked for a few hours.

Do not inflate your tires to the pressure listed on the tire itself. That number is the maximum pressure the tire can hold, not the recommended pressure for the vehicle. Tricky, huh? Go by the Honda Manual when in doubt.

Hopefully, you’re going to go check your tire pressure tomorrow morning.
Be Safe! From your friends at Honda Mall of Georgia.
