Honda Mall of Georgia: Multiple models tops in Satisfaction and Scoring

Multiple Honda models have claimed awards from AutoPacific's 2012 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards and Total Car Score's inaugural Top Scoring Car Awards, Honda announced this week.

The 2012 Honda CR-V, Honda Odyssey and Honda Pilot all earned the AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards. These awards are based on 75,000 surveys completed by owners of new cars and light trucks in the United State in the first quarter of 2012, according to Honda. Based solely on owner input, the Vehicle Satisfaction Awards are an accurate measurement of how satisfied new car and light truck buyers are with their recently purchased vehicle, Honda says.

The other models selected were the 2012 Honda Ridgeline, Honda Fit, Odyssey and CR-V and they won the Total Car Score's inaugural Top Scoring Car Awards, Honda reports. Total Car Score uses a ranking formula which takes the ratings from trusted automotive sites converted into a simple percentage, according to the Honda statement. Then, the ratings are translated to a single Total Car Score for quick and easy comparison for car shoppers.

"It's fantastic to have so much of Honda's outstanding product line represented in these awards," said Michael Accavitti, vice president of marketing operations for American Honda, in a press release from Honda Motors. "AutoPacific's awards tell us we're creating truly satisfied owners, and the Total Car Score awards demonstrate how widely and well regarded Honda's products are among top authoritative sites."

Not your traditional Honda vehicle

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has built a new UNI-CUB personal mobility device. This new vehicle is a compact device that gives people a new chance to move around, much like a person walking.

This may seem like a departure from traditional Honda vehicles, but the UNI-CUB will give people a new way to travel, which isn't much different from what Honda does now. The proprietary balance control technology and world's first omni-directional driving wheel system is the next step from the U3-X device Honda announced in 2009, Honda says. The rider of the UNI-CUB can control speed, move in any direction, and turn and stop all by shifting weight. With the ability to move freely forward, backward, side-to-side and even diagonally, Honda says the rider can maneuver in and around people with ease and quickness.

There's no need to worry about the size of the device as the height of the saddle allows the rider's legs to reach the ground and keep eye-level height with those around you.

Honda has provided a list of key features of the UNI-CUB:
From Honda:
Maneuverability promotes compatibility with people in many environments:
1. Omni-directional freedom of movement similar to human walking
UNI-CUB has a two-wheel configuration with a minimal wheelbase. The front wheel features the Honda Omni Traction Drive System that Honda first announced in 2009. The rear wheel moves laterally to facilitate turning. By leveraging the different rotational speeds of the front and rear wheel treads during lateral movements, UNI-CUB can move forwards and backwards, side-to-side and diagonally and also turn in place, making possible quick, nimble movement.

2. Movement in harmony with other people
Honda's proprietary balance control technology makes it possible for the rider to freely control the wheels of the UNI-CUB, much as human beings maintain their balance. With a design that takes into consideration the rider's environment, this system allows the rider to maneuver while moving side by side with or holding hands with another person.

3. Compact size for moving and climbing gradients in barrier-free indoor environments
Thanks to UNI-CUB's compact saddle-style packaging, the rider and vehicle together are about the same width as a person when walking. Optimized wheel design and high-precision drive/balance control enhance UNI-CUB's ability to climb gradients in barrier-free indoor environments.

Ease of control promotes freedom of movement:
4. Weight shift control combined with touch panel control
When the rider is using weight shift control, UNI-CUB's incline sensor detects the direction in which the rider is leaning, allowing UNI-CUB to calculate the direction and speed intended by the rider. And touch panel control via smartphone and other devices is another convenient control option.

A joint demonstration testing with Japan's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation will begin in June 2012 and will not only test using the UNI-CUB indoors but also the practical applications in different environments within Japan and other countries.

Honda Mall of Georgia: Sport Hybrid named Best Value

The United Services Automobile Association has named the 2012 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid Coupe to the second annual "Best Value" vehicles list. Cars in 16 different categories were evaluated and the CR-Z was chosen at the top of the Coupe category.

"The CR-Z creates a whole new value category as the first true sport hybrid, offering great fuel economy, a low entry price, an available 6-speed manual transmission and a feisty change of character with the push of the Sport button," said Mike Accavitti, Vice President of National Marketing Operations for American Honda, in a released statement. "It's like having two cars for the price of one."

USAA chose "Preferred" cars from a system that used quantitative data to evaluate cost, safety and reliability as well as other factors, according to Honda. The "Best Value" cars were those at the top of the Preferred list and that had a Good/Acceptable crash test rating from the IIHS. The CR-Z was at the top for having best-in-class EPA fuel economy and being a "Top Safety Pick" by the IIHS. Another list, the "Top 10 for Teens," from USAA also listed the CR-Z, Honda Civic and Honda Fit. The list focused on traits parents liked, citing reliability, safety and affordable insurance costs.

"The goal of the list is to help members identify vehicles that typically offer better safety ratings, lower insurance premium costs, higher fuel economy, better overall reliability and lower MSRP compared to other vehicles in the same category," said Steve Thompson, an assistant vice president at USAA, in the statement. "The Honda CR-Z rose to the top as a vehicle that offers these key elements, making it a great buy for the value-minded consumer."

Honda Mall of Georgia: Tire maintenance tips

You may give them a kick when checking out a new car but your tires need much more attention than a love tap. Keeping your tires in good condition can do more than just keep you on the road, it will improve gas mileage, vehicle handling and reduce the risk of breakdowns or accidents.

Basics
Knowing what tire size and pressure you need is the beginning to keeping your tires in shape. The vehicle manufacturer's recommendations can be found in the glove-box, the trunk lid or on the door edge as well as other places. Tire pressure limits can be found in the owner's manual.

Under Pressure
Tire pressure is important in vehicle handling, gas mileage and load limits. The pressure is the amount of air inside the tire measured in pounds per square inch (psi) or kilopascals (kPa). Keep in mind that an increased load will put more weight on the tires and can affect the pressure limit. Checking the tire pressure is simple with a pressure gauge that can be found at your local auto or hardware store. Some air pumps used to inflate tires may have a pressure gauge as well. The maximum inflation pressure can be found on the tire sidewall or in the vehicle owner's manual.
Important: In order to reach the correct recommended tire pressure, the tires need to be gauged when they are "cold." This does not mean outside temperature, rather that you should check the levels when the tires haven't been driven on for more than three hours. Driving increases the pressure level from heat and friction and will give you an inaccurate reading.

Tread Softly
If you aren't drifting, you'll want to get the most traction possible while driving. Changing your tires when the tread has worn is important in preventing accidents or blowouts. There are indicators on your tires that will let you know when they need to be replaced. You'll see raised pieces of rubber throughout the tire between the grooves. Another way to check is placing a penny upside down between the treads - if you can see Honest Abe's head - it's time to change your tires.

Keeping Your Balance
If you don't want your car doing the shimmy shake, you need to keep your tires balanced. This requires the weights on your tires being placed correctly to counterbalance any heavy spots on the wheel. An alignment will keep the tires correctly positioned with the vehicle's frame and will keep you driving straight. Both a balance and alignment require equipment found in a mechanic shop and should be completed by a certified technician.

Repair and Rotation
If your tires are all the same size, you can prevent uneven wear and tear by having them rotated. Your owner's manual should illustrate how and when to rotate your tires. If you have the correct tools and proper knowledge this is a maintenance technique you can perform at home, but relying on a professional's help is always a good way to go.

Sometimes you may notice low tire pressure even with proper maintenance, which could mean you have a puncture in your tread. A puncture in the tread can be repaired with a tire plug repair kit if the damage isn't too large. Any puncture to the sidewall cannot be repaired. A nice trick to finding the puncture involves removing the tire from the axle and slowly turning the tire in soapy water. If you see bubbles from the tread, that's more than likely the place of the puncture. It takes steady hands and muscle to plug the tread so make sure you're prepared to do the work if you take on the task at home.
