Honda Mall of Georgia: "Brand of the Year" awarded to Honda

Honda announced this week they were named “Brand of the Year” in the 2012 Harris Poll EquiTrend Equity Study. Honda claimed the top spot in the “Full Line Automotive” category, receiving the highest numerical Equity Score among the full line automotive brands in the study.

“This study offers strong evidence that the Honda brand continues to be well-regarded by American consumers,” said Mike Accavitti, vice president of National Marketing Operations for American Honda, in a released statement. “The combination of strong brand equity and a fresh line-up of new models that resonate with customers will drive strong growth for us this year.”

The 2012 Harris Poll EquiTrend Equity Study was based on opinions of 38,529 U.S. consumers age 15 and over who responded online between January 31 and February 20, 2012, according the the press release. The poll is an annual study designed to survey U.S. consumers about brand perceptions, familiarity with the brand and brand purchase consideration.

Honda Mall of Georgia: Honda ranks fifth in Intital Quality

For the second straight year, Honda is the highest ranking mass-market, non-premium brand in the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Initial Quality Study. All told, Honda ranked fifth among all industry nameplates and two Honda auto plants also received awards.

"For the second consecutive year our performance demonstrates our consistent commitment to deliver the highest quality for our customers," said Tetsuo Iwamura, president & CEO of American Honda Motor Co., Inc, in a released statement. "Thanks to the efforts of Honda associates in R&D, in manufacturing and in sales, we were able to continue to improve quality performance in this key industry ranking."

The Honda brand improved for the fourth straight year, and maintained its top performing mass market position from last year.

 

Leading in the compact crossover SUV category was the 2012Honda CR-V. Receiving four or five stars in all categories but one, the CR-V was tops in Overall Quality and ranked "Among the Best." Five other Honda models finished in the top-2 for their segments; the Accord for midsize car; the Odyssey for minivan; the Crosstour for midsize crossover SUV; the Ridgeline (midsize pickup); and the Fit (sub-compact car) were all four or five-star rated models in their respective categories.

Surprisingly, the Honda Civic did not finish at the top of its segment, but typically, was awarded five stars and ranked "Among the Best."

Honda as a whole surveyed to have just 83 problems per 100 vehicles, well below the industry average of 102 (PP100), good enough for the fifth spot in the nameplate rankings. According to J.D. Power and Associates, the study is based on responses from more than 74,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2012 model-year vehicles after 90 days of ownership and a 228-question metric to help industries improve products.

Honda Mall of Georgia: Safety features improving with rearview cameras

In a move to enhance driver visibility and confidence on the road, Honda has announced they will begin installing rearview cameras on many of their 2013 models. According to Honda, more than 94 percent of the model lineup will be equipped with rearview cameras, with 100 percent of Honda's truck lineup (Crosstour,  CR-V, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline) having the equipment. The CR-Z, Accord and Crosstour will also have the cameras come standard, Honda says.

"At Honda, we feel that this visibility feature will be important to many families and we're widely applying it even before we may be required to do so," said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda, in a released statement. "In addition to the wide application of the rear-view camera technology, Honda is also introducing several new features for enhanced driver safety, visibility and security in model-year 2013."

Honda wants to provide drivers with 360-degree visibility with technologies and rearview cameras are but a small element in that movement. Other initiatives like Honda's new Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning systems will be available on the 2013 Accord and Crosstour. Cameras placed behind the windshield warn drivers of possible collisions or if the car is unexpectedly veering from its lane.

Standard on the 2012 CR-V is another new feature, the Expanded View Driver's Mirror and the Honda-exclusive LaneWatch blind-spot display. A camera mounted on the passenger mirror allows an enhanced view of the passenger-side roadway and is the basis of the LaneWatch technology. This safety feature will debut on the 2013 Accord as well as the 2013 Crosstour.

Honda Mall of Georgia: Honda Fit EV tops in efficiency

The 2013 Honda Fit EV is the newest addition to Honda's long line of efficient and edgy vehicles. This week the Fit EV received a combined adjusted Environmental Protection Agency mile-per-gallon equivalency rating of 118 MPGe with a consumption rating of just 29 kilowatt hours per 100 miles, according to Honda. What this means is the Fit EV would require 29 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity to travel 100 miles. For this rating, the lower the kWh per 100 miles, the more efficient the vehicle and the less energy used to travel. The MPGe rating basically compares how far the Fit EV would travel on one gallon of gas. In this instance, the Fit EV can travel an EPA estimated 118 miles on the energy equivalent of one gallon of gas. What it all really means is less use of gasoline and fewer stops at the gas station.

The Fit EV was introduced in 2011 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will be offered next year. But for now, the tension builds for such an efficient and fun vehicle.

“Just as important as the industry-leading fuel-efficiency and fast recharging time, as a Honda, the 2013 Fit EV will be an absolute kick to drive,” said Steve Center, vice president of the American Honda Environmental Business Development Office, in a released statement.

Using a 240-volt circuit, the Fit EV can be charged in less than three hours, but the smaller 20-kWh battery is used to its maximum potential. The combined city/highway estimated driving range of 82 miles is more than the Ford Focus Electric, Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-MiEV, according to Honda. Don't let the numbers or new rating terms jumble your brain, just remember the Fit EV had full EPA MPGe ratings of 132/105/118 city/highway/combined MPGe.

Honda says the Fit EV will be offered with a three-year lease for $389/month, but the EPA rates the annual fuel cost at only $500. Look no further than the Honda Fit EV for the most efficient and exciting electric vehicle!
